Red Faction: Armageddon set to release May 31 Empty Red Faction: Armageddon set to release May 31

THQ and Volition announced today that Red Faction: Armageddon, the follow-up to Red Faction: Guerrilla, will be released for 360, PS3, and PC on May 31 in North America, and June 3 internationally. The game takes place 50 years after the events of Guerrilla - you'll again be freeing Mars, but this time your enemy will be a "long-dormant evil" accidentally unleashed by the protagonist, Darius Mason.

The game will utilize Geo-Mod 2.0, the same engine used by Guerrilla, to enable the same unusually-easy-to-destroy Martian environments people loved. Armageddon is also being complimented with a live-action Syfy movie called Red Faction: Origins.

"Red Faction: Armageddon is an incredible new entry in this vaunted franchise, and Volition once again pushes the envelope of technology and science fiction," said Danny Bilson, THQ's executive vice president of core games, to the person writing the press release.
"Come May 31, players can look forward to collapsing entire buildings on their enemies, using the world as their weapon," added Bilson, for some reason.

Usually press release statements leave us with some hyperbole about how we're going to be "ripped to shreds" or "eaten alive," but Bilson just told us the basic premise of the gameplay. Refreshing!
A lot of people (myself included) loved Guerrilla, so we hope that, with the same formula in place, Armageddon will deliver the same absurdly-enjoyable sandbox destruction. We'll surely have more on the game as its release approaches.
