Duty Calls - COD Parody

Call of Duty may be a blockbuster success on a global scale, but Activision's cash cow isn't quite bullet-proof. For example, Epic Games is taking shots at the franchise with Duty Calls: The Calm Before the Storm, a free downloadable game parody that mocks the military-first person shooter and a number of its gameplay conventions.

The difference between Duty Calls and its inspiration becomes apparent as soon as players start the game. Upon being dropped into a level, a voice gives the player marching orders over the radio.

Here's a Bulletstorm screen, since the Call of Duty and Duty Calls shots are too tough to tell apart.

"Here's your objective," the commanding officer says. "Blah blah blah blah secret base. Blah blah blah blah plan. Blah blah blah nuclear missile bomb. Blah blah blah counting on you. Utmost importance. Win. Good luck."

As players make their way through the game, they find useless objects (a stick, loose leaf paper), run into villains who can only be beaten in slow motion, and achieve the rank of Sergeant of the Master Sergeants Most Important Person of Extreme Sergeants to the Max. The game isn't exactly subtle about its critiques, as every one of the player's gunshots is accompanied by a voice clip loudly saying, "Boring!"

It's funny how EA is always bashing Call of Duty because it's just so much better than any game they can push out to compete with it. XD
I love the idea, they've been coming up with some great advertising lately... XD

Honestly, I feel some things are exaggerated, considering I found Bulletstorm's demo a bit... boring...

Cod is way to popular now, no matter how many fails and bad stuff they
make to Cod games, people will keep buying it....

I liked the Bulletstorm DEMO, but not to play it over & over again.

I can see me playing it for about one time through, but after that... eh...

I have to agree, here. I lost my respect for the franchise a long time ago, but I can't deny that they are good games (Well, except MW2.) EA's main competitor to CoD, Medal of Honour, was just not very good. The campaign especially sucked, and the multiplayer was pretty good, but not exciting enough to keep me interested for long. I wish MoH would've done something different rather than tried to copy CoD.

Well DICE was behind the multiplayer, and they think their engine is the best thing since sliced bread...

That's why I'm betting everything on Splash Damage and BRINK... that or Duke Nukem.

I don't think Duke Nukem will be a CoD killer...
Many new gamers to the gaming world don't
know about Duke, they are all too young.

BRINK, I might bet everything, the reason is
because (I know may many people know and
want BRINK) I heared some gamers talking
about BRINK in school. Which means even people
here in my country know a good game when they see it.

Thing is, Brink isnt being hyped or advertised much right now.

For coming out in May, neither are being advertised much, but that's okay because Call of Duty wasn't advertised much when it was first announced in 2002... now look at it.

I can imagine a Brink: Fight for the Ark (BRINK 7) already. xD

I guarantee you that Splash Damage wont make sequels every year, kurusedo, if their history is anything to go by. They made Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory which came out about 8 or 9 years ago and is still being supported to this day.

I didn't say every year. A new BRINK game every 10 years maybe.

So BRINK 7: Fight for the arc will come out when I'm 88??

I never said a BRINK every year... and there's a reason why a game should NOT be introduced every year (Same goes for Need for Speed). Because if you get a new game every year... it gets repetitive really fast. Need for Speed (as I already mentioned) is different ONLY because, they use a different engine every year, and it's not like we get the same bloody game every year. There's something that's slightly different that changes gameplay. IE Shift is realistic, Hot Pursuit... isn't, so getting Shift 2 is like getting back in the cockpit again...

Yeah, we know what you meant... and I think BRINK will
not have a sequel, but Splash Damage will have to make
more games with the S.M.A.R.T. system IF it turns out to
be rather awesome and epic. So maybe, just maybe, there
might be another BRINK game... who knows.

Yeah... Valve was balanced... Half-Life debuted in 1998, we didn't get a sequel for it till 2004. After Half-Life, they made Mods for it like Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, and Team Fortress.... after Half-Life they were going into the right direction... EXCEPT after Left 4 Dead... which is the biggest epic fail in epicfailness history.

So I would rather have Splash Damage pull a Valve. In other words...

2011 - BRINK
2012 - Announce another project (with SMART technology if they want, but hopefully in id Software 5's engine, and NOT BRINK).
2013 - Release this title
2014 - Announce BRINK 2
2015 - BRINK 2 releases
2016 - A new project, biggest one yet thanks to their total gross.
2018 - The new project
2020 - BRINK 3: Dr. Hitler's Revenge
