Pet Peeve in video games
Sorry for the innactivity, haven't felt like going on the computer much or talking much about video games... I've been so addicted to Red Dead... which helped me found this topic.
Multiplayer Zombie games, that don't let you come back as a zombie:
I'm not saying a western gave is a pet peeve, I'm going to state, ZOMBIE SURVIVAL games are a pet peeve of mine. Not the generic over used idea... I honestly, as overused as it is I think it's great, surviving unlimited hordes of undead. That's the whole idea of zombie survival, you eventually run out of ammo, you eventually run out of hope, it's just how soon does the end come? And I love that feeling about Undead Nightmare, Nazi Zombies, and other games of the sort, but what I absolutely can't stand.... are games that don't let you be zombies afterwards. Like, how COULD THAT BE OVERLOOKED?! The whole idea of zombies being so populated is once they bite someone and/or kill them, the person turns into one and joins the horde. So when I'm playing Undead Nightmare of the sort... when I die, why do I watch people get owned? Why can't I try to kill them, or let me play Tetris or something while I wait. Sometimes I feel like the developer is trying to kill the player, and make them want to just quit and play something else.
Or is it just a hidden message? Like after death, there's NOTHING. I could see it being gameplay ruining, but at least give the player something to do other than just watch his teammates. Sometimes I get frustrated and for some BS reason die, and I just wanna get my mind off of the game and just wait to get my XP. How about a waiting room thing? Where I run around the next rounds waiting room or just free roam, or how about just giving me a minigame... or make it all the more fun and let me come back as a damned UNDEAD FOR CHRISTS SAKE! I'm all for spectating, I think it's cool and all, but in a zombie game, there's no excuse, and the option to be a zombie shouldn't be required, you should allow the player to spectate or reanimate.
A little offtopic...
People who judge games by their story
What game deserves game of the year? Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood? Red Dead Redemption? Mass Effect 2? All games are well made, visually stunning, have addictive gameplay, and have famous actors voices... So it's kinda hard to say right? There's nothing else in a video game that could possibly make it more appealing or that should matter when playing a video game.... it's a word that starts with an F and it isn't frustration... give up? It's story (JK it's FUN). But nowadays I've seen critics saying, "This game has a great story", or Gamespot reviews games with a 'story' category. Why the fuck should you judge a game like that?
I'm all for stories in a video game, I think every game needs a reason for being played... which is part of the reason why I hated Gears so much, it's the prime example for a game with a crap story. Your just a guy, with boom box boobies, a big ego, and a chainsaw bayonet gun with a lot of over dramatic blood shredding monsters into pieces. The story practically presents itself to the unknowing player as; "Your Marcus Fenix, your dick is 30 inches long, your the size of a train, go drink Locust blood." Objectives spawn from nowhere and you do these tasks in the tackiest gameplay of all time. It's not a bad game however, very bland and boring, but not bad... but the story isn't what made the game bad to me IMO, nor did it affect other gamers and critics. Super Mario Bros is another prime example, or even Pac-Man.
Games are made for fun, if I wanted a story, I'd read a book or watch a movie. I expect better stories out of porno's than video games, stories don't mean crap to me in video games, and good games shouldn't be depicted for their story, which is why I find Bioshock severely overrated.
Well anyway, go ahead and post yours.

Re: Pet Peeve in video games
I actually have a lot of problems with Undead Nightmare (I'll do a review sometime) but I agree that it is good a good survival game.
Anyway.
My biggest peeve is when games throw a 20 minute cutscene in your face that has epic action and fights and stuff in it. (see: Devil May Cry) I don't get why it wont let me play them. And I mean PLAY them, not Quick Time Event them, goddamnit.
