Black Ops: Swastika Emblems get you banned

The title says it all. As of now, do anything involving a swastika or I guess nazis... will get you banned from XBox LIVE, how long or whether or not is permanent wasn't specified but I'm guessing by all the seriousness... you have to make a new account (AKA Perm. Ban)

Basically, what LIVE isn't really concerned about is that Treyarch gave an immature community to much power to come up with offensive emblems, LIVE is concerned that it'll give XBox a bad reputation. Rather than making a good playable game, Treyarch has (accidently) made a competition to make the most offensive and ridiculous, offensive things in a video game ever.

Stephan Toulouse of XBox LIVE director of policy and enforcement stated:

"Under some religions, the specific design of the Nazi swastika is certainly not unique to the German Nazi Party. In some cases, it can be interpreted to mean unity depending on how it is oriented. But somehow, (I know, calm yourself) the prosecution of an entire world war in the 20th century co-opted that symbol for western civilizations into a symbol of evil and hatred. Let’s be clear: no educated human on the planet looks at the swastika symbol on a video game service in 'the year we make contact' and says 'oh, that symbol has nothing at all in any way to do with global genocide of an entire race and, even if it did, one should totally and reasonably ignore that because it’s a symbol that was stolen or coop-ted from religions.'"

He also defended his position as more than political correctness:

"It’s not political correctness, it’s fundamental respect. If you think the swastika symbol should be re-evaluated by societies all over the Earth, I think that’s great. Your Xbox LIVE profile or in game logo, which doesn’t have the context to explain your goal, is not the right place to do that. And by the way, that doesn't just go for the Swastika, it applies to many other symbols as well that my team does indeed take action on when we see it."

So apparently, to sum this entire article up, he's saying, the swastika isn't a bad thing (because it symbolizes unity in some religions), it's just because people usually see a swastika and associate it with the events of WWII and the genocide of mankind. The reason you can't have it or express yourself, is because you can't explain what your representing, whether your trying to be funny or not. He even goes as far to say if your going to start a swastika revolution, where it represents it not being a bad thing... go ahead, just don't use XBox LIVE/Black Ops.

I think he shouldn't just specifically attack swastika's either... how about he addresses a... oh I don't know... a man doing a gorilla and the gorilla has a thought bubble coming from his head with a smiley face in the middle... yeah... @HelloLouke made that, and it's as funny as it sounds.

I think overall Treyarch just screwed up when they allowed this much depth to the customization... they shouldn't punish the community by banning them.

The permaban is a bit much. Temp ban would be perfectly reasonable. Hold up, why did they even put them in the game? The CoD commnity is made up almost entirely of drooling, retarded, douchebags. If there's a swastika, a CoD fan will put it on his emblem next to a big smiley face and probably a swear word just to troll, because he's a CoD fan. I mean, just look at that last one! I've defended Treyarch up to now, but good lord that is such an ignorant and stupid thing to even have as an option. Treyarch, that was retarded..

I haven't played the new COD and didn't know you could make emblems. Those are awesome! I can't believe how serious Xbox is taking this. They were talking about games in the future using the kinects camera to stream over live, I can only see bad things to come of that, too.
